Today, the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) hosted the 32nd session of the EUMETNET Council.

EUMETNET is a network grouping of 23 European National Meteorological Services. ECMWF has observer status to EUMETNET and contributes to several EUMETNET programmes.

EUMETNET provides a framework to organise co-operative programmes between the Members in the various fields of basic meteorological activities such as observing systems, data processing, basic forecasting products, research and development, training. Through EUMETNET Programmes, the Members intend to develop their collective capability to serve environment management and climate monitoring and to bring to all European users the best available quality of meteorological information.

Progress was made regarding the preparation of the future governance of the grouping and its transition to an Economic Interest Grouping (EIG). Important decisions were made regarding programmes such as the EUMETNET Composite Observing System (EUCOS) and the EUMETRep, an optional EUMETNET Programme aiming at representing the combined interests of EUMETNET Members to the European Union institutions, acting collectively with their European Meteorological Infrastructure (EMI) partners (ECMWF and EUMETSAT) and the world Meteorological Organization (WMO).

At the beginning of the session, the Director of the National Meteorological Service of Slovenia signed the accession agreement as 24th EUMETNET Member.
