Latvia becomes 13th Co-operating State

On 30 April 2008, the Latvian Government officially notified the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) that all internal procedures necessary for the entry into force of the co-operation agreement between Latvia and ECMWF had been completed. Latvia became ECMWF's 13th Co-operating State.

The co-operation agreement between the Republic of Latvia and the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) entered into force on 30 April 2008, when the Centre received the written notice through diplomatic channels that the Republic of Latvia had completed its internal procedures necessary for the entry into force of the agreement. The agreement was signed in Reading on 18 January 2008 by Mr Raimonds Vejonis, Minister of Environment of the Republic of Latvia, and Mr Dominique Marbouty, Director of ECMWF.

ECMWF may conclude co-operation agreements with States within the territory covered by the European Union, the Regional Association VI (Europe) of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), or the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership. Co-operation agreements have been concluded with:

Czech Republic, Montenegro, Estonia, Iceland, Croatia, Lithuania, Hungary, Morocco, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia and Slovakia.
