From 27 February until 2 March 2012, ECMWF hosted the final General Assembly of the European project Monitoring Atmospheric Composition and Climate (MACC) combined with the kick-off Assembly of its follow-on project MACC-II. The aim of the meeting was to review and present the achievements of MACC as well as the plans for the coming year for MACC-II.

More than one hundred participants attended this event.

The Project Officer from the Research Executive Agency and the four expert reviewers stressed the excellent progress made by the project in all of its thematic areas. They stated that the objectives have been met. Nevertheless, there are still challenges ahead to reach the operational phase expected at the end of MACC-II, in particular regarding ever-increasing user interaction and support, external communication and consolidation of all elements in the technical service chains.

The Project Advisory Board, chaired by Professor Len Barrie (the Cyprus Institute), provided guidance on several aspects such as observations (satellite, surface and profile/aircraft) and support to European and national environmental policies.
