Summary: 

Becky Hemingway is the team leader of the ECMWF Liaison and Outreach Team in the User Outreach and Engagement Section. She is responsible for Member and Co-operating State and WMO liaison activities, user focused outreach, communication and events and forecasting and computing training at ECMWF. Her main activities including the organisation of the annual Using ECMWF Forecasts (UEF) event, coordination of Member and Co-operating State engagement and visits, running ECMWF training events and providing training to users of ECMWF forecast products including at WMO and EUMETCAL events.

Becky's career in weather started at the UK Met Office in 2012 as a Weather Impact Scientist working on Hazard Impact Modelling as part of the Natural Hazards Partnership (NHP). She specialised in wind impacts and developed models to forecast the impact of wind on the UK road network and leisure activities. She has presented her work, and the work of the NHP, at international conferences and events around the world. During her time at the Met Office, she also undertook secondments in Forecasting, the Hazard Centre, Government Services and worked in the Weather and Climate Science for Services Partnership Team.

Becky is co-Editor-in-Chief of Atmospheric Science Letters, a Royal Meteorological Society journal, and regularly reviews manuscripts for other meteorological journals. She is a Royal Meteorological Society fellow and has published papers in the meteorological field.

Career background: 

Education

MSci Master of Oceanography, University of Southampton, UK (awarded 2012) with a year abroad at the University of Washington, USA. Dissertation: "El Niño Southern Oscillation Observational Teleconnection Analysis and Comparison to the CHIME model".
